Community support

Every community starts with someone who cares.

A room, a speaker, sometimes a bit of money. Tell us what your meetup is missing — helping local communities happen is what Ruby Europe is here for.

It doesn't have to be about money

Ruby Europe exists to support the European Ruby community. When a local meetup thrives — people meet, learn and build together — the whole ecosystem grows with it. So we help on whatever front you're short on. Sometimes that's a company willing to lend a room. Sometimes it's finding someone to give a talk. Sometimes it's covering the real costs. Often it's a mix.

If what you're missing is a venue or a speaker and we can help you find one, that might be all you need. That's a good outcome, not a smaller one.

What we can help with

  • A venue or host

We'll put you in touch with a company or space willing to host your meetup.

  • A speaker

Someone gave a talk in another city this month. We can ask them to give it in yours, or pass your call for papers along the network.

  • Funding

When money is the blocker: the room, the food, a speaker's travel, equipment, promotion.

  • Getting started

Running a first meetup, or waking up a group that went quiet. We've done both.

Something else? Say so in the form — it has a box for exactly that.

A conference that didn't keep its profit

  1. Ruby Community Conferenceone day, once a year
  2. €3,000 left after costscreated by attendees, speakers and sponsors
  3. Handed to Ruby Europeno strings attached
  4. Your meetupup to €300

Ruby Community Conference is organised by Visuality and has never been run for profit. Once the last edition covered its costs, €3,000 was left over — money that attendees, speakers and sponsors created together. It's now going back out to local meetups.

No scoring, no paperwork maze

  1. Tell us what you need

The form below takes a few minutes. Funding, a venue, a speaker, or "I'm not sure yet" — all fine.

  2. We reply within about 7 days

A real person reads every request and works out how we can help. If we need more, we'll just ask.

  3. We make it happen

An introduction, a speaker, money towards the costs — whatever fits. Often more than one.

It takes a few minutes. No login.

Email us your request

Write to contact@rubyeurope.com and tell us your name, your city, what stage your meetup is at and how we can help. If you need funding, say roughly how much (up to €300).

A real person from Ruby Europe will read it and get back to you within about 7 days.

Common questions

Do I need a registered organisation?
No. Individuals and informal groups are welcome. Invoicing is only sorted out after we've agreed to support you.
What if I only need a venue or a speaker?
Perfect. Tell us what's missing and we'll try to connect you with it. If it turns out you don't need money at all, even better.
Does my event need to be big?
Not at all. A small local meetup is exactly the kind of thing we want to help happen.
Do I have to credit anyone?
No. If you'd like to share how it went afterwards we'd love to hear it, but it's entirely up to you.

Who makes this possible

The money behind this round came from one company's conference. There's room for more — if you'd like your company to put something into European Ruby communities, we'll tell you exactly where it goes.
